Time is tick tick ticking away and there’s so much left to do. If you’re wondering what preparations a cruise ship dancer has to make prior to packing up and literally “ship”ping out, then read on. If you thought all you had to have was a suitcase, a passport, and dance shoes well you are mistaken. Yes, these are necessary items to have. In fact, you’ll need such articles at the audition prior to even nailing a job contract, but here is the truth behind your next big break as a cruise ship dancer.

First, there is a lot of paperwork. I have been printing, reading, signing, and uploading document after fine printed document. As most new job positions go, I have been completing applications, background checks, medical exams, training, and more. It isn’t necessarily a complicated process, it's just an intricate and timely procedure. Not only have I been working to get my employee profile completed, I have been using this time to sneak as many home-cooked meals, sunset hikes, and loved ones into my days left ashore.
The next step is rehearsals in Miami. After I fly out, I will be learning, memorizing, and perfecting two separate shows in Miami for an average of two months. Both shows will be fitted in wardrobe and performed. After Miami rehearsals, our Spectrum of the Seas voyage will begin and I will be setting sail for half a year.
There's actually a section of time on the ship they call an “overlap”. This is an interval where the previous cast performs the shows we will have just learned for their last time and we watch. They introduce us to their old home, show us the ins and outs, and then we perform for our first time on the waves. That cast gets to step back onto land leaving the costumes behind and taking only good memories and new relationships. Giving us the opportunity to do just that for the next cast to follow us.
So my preparations continue and packing will commence soon because in just two months i'll be in sunny Miami working like a banshee. I am ecstatic for this opportunity. It's time to wrap up my Utah shenanigans and start working on my showgirl strut.
